The concept of “cultural appropriation” has brought way more harm and division than justice and harmony.
It is one of the most toxic ideas that otherwise intelligent-seeming people take seriously.
Some of the greater masterpieces in literature, sculpture, visual arts, music, that have diffused multiculturalism, tolerance and aesthetic beauty would have never prospered within the limitations imposed by the Identity Politics totalitarians.
I hope I do appropriate myself with several cultural traits from my fellow Thai, Vietnamese, and Japanese friends and colleagues. I hope I can carry it as part of my identity and transmit it to my daughters and spread it wherever I go.
We should be moving towards our Human unity, not towards artificial sectarianism like "Cultural Appropriation".
